about

Sacrificial Lamb is my cathartic processing experience of two things. The death of George Floyd; an event occurring in the height of a global pandemic that shook the world to its core and the death of Jesus Christ; the reality and re-considering of which I reckoned with and was moved by more than ever going through and coming out of 2020's lockdown. Never in my life had I seen protests take place across the world for such a unified cause. We witnessed a historical moment in last year's global coming together that cannot be forgotten or treated as a passing phase. 'Sacrificial Lamb' is a continuation of the conversations that arose in the wake of Floyd's death on this day last year.

Seeing people of different ethnicities become equally outraged by the blatant injustice of one brother at the hands of essentially another, struck a bitter sweet chord within me. It reminded me that the fight against police brutality, racial prejudice but most of all the principalities and powers revelling in the calamities of this broken world is one that we are all needed for no matter what community we represent. As a Christian, this also has meaning for me on a spiritual level. Revelation 7 vs 9 says it best with the picture of heaven being a multi-cultural one. This is strengthened by Jesus bringing this heavenly multi-ethnic unity down to earth by declaring that disciples are to be made of ALL nations.

These realisations influenced my selection of the musicians on the track; each person hailing from diverse ethnic backgrounds with an equal representation of genders among the instrumentalists and vocalists. As a black female instrumentalist, it also meant a lot to me that women instrumentalists were equally represented in this bands line-up. It is also such a blessing that this multi-ethnic representation continues down to the high quality audio engineers and filmmakers from 5db studios; without which this project would never have even gotten off the ground!

More on 5db

The collaboration which has formed between myself, my friends and 5db studios in West London has been an absolutely beautiful answered prayer. It came at a time when the facilitation of a project this size really did look like it was going to be impossible; especially with COVID rendering all of our processes so much more difficult. Never have I ever experienced a group of people who understood the vision that I brought to them in such detail and have shown such commitment to bringing the vision into fruition. 5db truly gave their all to the facilitation of the audio and video content of 'Sacrificial Lamb'. Without the hard work, of the audio engineers who gave their time and high level of skill to the recording and mixing process and the filmmakers who masterfully captured the entire 3-day rehearsal and recording process merging artistic concepts with musical ones; this project WOULD NOT be what it is today! For this I am eternally thankful.

lyrics

Main Mantra:

Attention man kind, one against another saw the devil kneel on the neck of his brother

How can we stay in a state of complacency

As the world stood still, a man was slain, another sacrificial lamb on the end of the chain

Stop. Killing. UUUUUUUUSSSSSS!

God help me x 3
